Eye Yoga

February 12, 2013

You are probably familiar with Yoga; an ancient practice that we use today to tone and strengthen our bodies and calm our minds. But did you know you can use Yoga to have the same effect for the muscles of the eyes? It’s called Eye Yoga and it’s a new trend that’s popping up in gyms and yoga studios everywhere as a great way to strengthen eye muscles and get rid of eye strain.

Our modern lifestyle can take a heavy toll on eye health. Looking at a computer or TV for hours a day can lead to eye strain and tension. We at Clariti have compiled some useful Eye Yoga exercises to keep your peepers happy and healthy.

-For strained eyes, close your eyes as tightly as you can, scrunching up your face. Hold the pose for a few seconds and then release it, quickly opening the eyes. Repeat about five times.

-To enhance eye focus: look at the tip of your nose and then at a far object and then back to the tip of your nose. Repeat ten times, using different objects at different distances each time.

-To strengthen, close your eyes and roll them in circles for about one minute.

-Direct your gaze upwards as much as you can and then downwards as much as you can (without moving your head) Repeat five times and then blink quickly to relax the eye muscles.

-Once you have completed your “eye workout” treat yourself with this relaxing practice called Palming. Rub your palms together until warm. Position the right fingertips over the left and gently cup the palms over the eyes. Ideally, perform this practice sitting on the floor propping the elbows up with your knees. Stay in this position for a few minutes, breathing deeply and evenly.

These exercises are a great way to reduce tension and increase eye muscle strength, but of course, all the eye Yoga in the world won’t help you too much if you have plain old bad eyesight. Luckily you have Clarity eye wear! Check out these gorgeous frames from our Monalisa Collection, M8718. M8718C2
